Sunday also marks the third and final game of the Sheraton Super Sunday Series, which is a series of Southeastern Conference opponenets that NC State is hosting during the month of December. It is comprised of games against South Carolina, Alabama, and Vanderbilt.
After defeating the Gamecocks and Crimson Tide in consecutive games, momentum came to a hault Thursday with a 72-58 loss to Richmond. Bonae Holston turned in another quality performance with a season-best 21 points and also grabbed 10 rebounds for her second-straight double-double, and 21st of her career. She also went over 1,300 career points, and is now 13 points shy of 19th on the school's all-time scoring list.
Junior sharp shooter Marissa Kastanek added a season-high 17 points in the loss.
Vanderbilt started the week as one of only 12 teams that remained unbeaten in the nation, and are coming off an 11-day exam break to visit the Wolfpack. They are the first ranked non-conference opponent to play at Reynolds Coliseum since #22 BYU defeated the Pack, 69-57, on Dec. 14, 2002.
The team has equalled its best start in a decade under head coach Melanie Balcomb. Vanderbilt leads the country in three-point shooting at 44.1 percent, and third in field goal percentage (49.8%).
