Paez, Bond Win Bracket Titles in Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – NC State men’s tennis players Rafael Paez and Beck Bond both won bracket titles Sunday afternoon at Alabama’s Crimson Tide Fall Championships at the Alabama Tennis Center.
Paez, a junior from Atibaia, Brazil, was leading Alabama’s Michael Thompson in the second set, 6-1, 1-0, when Thompson was forced to retire, giving Paez the championship in the Musso bracket. Paez was a perfect 4-0 on the weekend.
Bond, a freshman from Meriden, Conn., defeated Ball State’s Alex Doherty 6-4, 6-2, to take the title in the consolation bracket of the Hannah bracket. After losing his opening match on Friday, Bond won three consecutive matches Saturday and Sunday to win the backdraw title.
The Wolfpack has completed its fall tournament schedule and will now begin preparing for the spring dual match season, which begins on Jan. 14 with matches against Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville and the Citadel at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dail Outdoor Tennis Center, which is nearing completion at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex.
