Kissell Goes Undefeated In Singles Action At Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, ALA. - NC State concluded play today at the Roberta Alison Fall Classic. The Pack was led by a strong performance from sophomore Joelle Kissell. Kissell went undefeated over the weekend in singles play, winning Flight No. 1. She topped the No. 1 seed, Alexa Guarachi of Alabama, 6-3, 6-2, to win the bracket.
Senior Ashley Miller, the No. 1 seed in Flight No. 3, defeated Plamena Kurteva of Auburn 5-7, 7-5, 10-5, to win the consolation final. Sophomore Christy Sipes, the No. 1 seed in Flight No. 6 also picked up a win in singles action, topping Kate Lanier of Southern Mississippi, 6-2, 6-2, to take third place in the bracket.
In doubles action, freshman Elisha Hande and Sipes, the No. 3 seed in Flight No. 1, defeated Amy Williams and Linda Game of NW State 8-2 in the second round. Miller and junior Chloe Smith, seeded No. 1 in Flight No. 3, also picked up a second round win, defeating Maja Kazimieruk and Charlotte Phillips of Houston by default.
Kissell and freshman Sophie Nelson, the No. 1 seed in Flight No. 2, defeated Madelie Van Rensburg and Emily Mallory of Samford, 8-5 in the final round of doubles action to place third.
The Pack will return to action Oct. 20 at the ITA Indoor Regional in Chapel Hill, N.C.
