Hodgson Advances at ITA Carolinas Regional Championships

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – NC State men’s tennis senior Dominic Hodgson advanced to Sunday’s round of 16 at the ITA Carolinas Regional Championships, after cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Clemson’s Gerardo Meza Saturday morning at UNC’s Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Hodgson, seeded eighth in the 116-player field, will play ninth-seeded Danny Kreyman of Wake Forest on Sunday at 11 a.m. for the right to advance to the quarterfinals.
In other round of 32 matches, Wolfpack junior Matt Thomson fell to Wake Forest’s Adam Lee, 6-3, 6-3, while freshman Austin Powell lost his match to Duke’s Cale Hammond, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.
In doubles action, Hodgson and Thomson lost their match to Duke’s Luke Marchese and Torsten Wietoska, 8-5.
Singles
Dominic Hodgson def. Gerardo Meza, Clemson, 6-3, 6-0.
Matt Thomson lost to Adam Lee, Wake Forest, 6-3, 6-3.
Austin Powell lost to Cale Hammond, Duke, 0-6, 6-4, 7-5.
Doubles
Hodgson/Thomson lost to Luke Marchese/Torsten Wietoska, Duke, 8-5.
