Men's Tennis Players Fall At ITA All-American Championships

TULSA, Okla. – Sophomore Ivan Sanchez Gomez won his second-round match against Southern Methodist's Max Ando-Hirsch on the first day of the prequalifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships, held at Tulsa's Case Tennis Center.
Sanchez Gomez, who received a bye in the first round, won in three sets, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. He will play again today at 9 a.m. against Johnny Grimal of Memphis.
Both junior Matt Thomson and freshman Austin Powell lost their matches on Saturday.
Powell, who reached the Division II finals of last weekend’s Southern Intercollegiate Championships, fell in three sets to DePaul’s Filip Dzanko in an early morning match, 7-6 (3), 2-6, 6-2.
Thomson fell to Southern Illinois’ Jorge Cavero, 6-2, 6-2.
Senior Dominic Hodgson begins play in the tournament’s qualifying round on Monday.
