Bhambri Knocks Off #10 Lao in Wolfpack Loss

ANN ARBOR, MICH. --- 46th-ranked NC State women’s tennis dropped a 4-3 decision to 18th-ranked Southern Cal Saturday as part of the ITA National Team Indoors.
32nd-ranked Sanaa Bhambri made the biggest splash of the afternoon, defeating the nation’s 10th-ranked player Danielle Lao 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (13-11).
Freshmen Joelle Kissell and Christy Sipes picked up the only other singles wins for the Pack. Kissell defeated Cristala Andrews 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 def., while Sipes fought back against Lyndsay Kinstler to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-2.
53rd-ranked Sandhya Nagaraj fell to the third-ranked player in the country, Maria Sanchez, in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-2.
USC’s Alison Ramos downed Lenka Hojckova 6-0, 6-3. Tatiana Illova came up on the short end of a 6-4, 6-2 decision against Kaitlyn Christian.
Southern Cal won the doubles point by knocking off NC State’s seventh-ranked duo of Bhambri and Nagaraj, 8-4, and the 86th-ranked pairing of Sipes and Ashley Miller, 8-4.
The Wolfpack will await the outcome of the Michigan/Auburn match later this afternoon. The losing team will face NC State tomorrow, beginning at 11 a.m.
