The Wolfpack looks to bounce back from its heart-breaking 65-64 loss to No. 3 Duke last Sunday. NC State dominated the unbeaten Blue Devils for the better part of 32 minutes, before Duke stormed back for an improbable win.
Miami is ranked for the first time since 2003-04, but had its 17-game winning streak snapped Monday to the hands of in-state and ACC rival Florida State. The 'Canes are still off to their second-best start in school history at 18-2.
Last season, Marissa Kastanek scored 16 points and grabbed eight boards - including the game-winning basket on an offensive rebound with 1:07 remaining - in the fifth-annual "Hoops 4 Hope" game, leading her team to a 66-64 victory over Miami in Reynolds Coliseum.
Junior Bonae Holston enters the game 19 points shy of 1,000 for her career. She would become the 27th member of the 1,000-point club at NC State, and the first junior to join since Kaayla Chones in 2002-03.
NC State is in the midst of playing five ACC teams ranked in the top-25 in a span of six games, something that has never happened in school history. The stretch began on Friday, Jan. 14 with an 83-76 setback at No. 11 North Carolina. The only unranked team the Pack will play in the stretch is Boston College, who was ranked for two weeks earlier this season. Then No. 3 Duke came to town Sunday, before the visit to No. 16 Miami. The gauntlet continues by hosting No. 21 Florida State on Sunday and then a visit to No. 14 Maryland to wrap up the stretch.
Kastanek enters the matchup averaging 21.7 points over the last three games. That includes a career-high 30 at North Carolina and 21 points at Boston College. She has made 13 of her last 27 three-point attempts, which has put her No. 1 in the ACC in three-point shooting accuracy at 42.6%.
The Wolfpack heads home for Hoops 4 Hope on Sunday against the Seminoles beginning at 1 p.m. The breast cancer awareness event will begin when the doors open at 11 a.m. For more details click here.
