RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State men's tennis head coach Jon Choboy announced today that Stephen Ward has been named an assistant coach. Ward served as a volunteer assistant coach for the Wolfpack this past season.
"I'm excited to have Stephen stay on with the program as an assistant coach," said Choboy. "He has a tremendous knowledge of the game, is a skilled instructor and has already established a great rapport with our student-athletes."
Ward replaces his former collegiate teammate Jeff Kader, who was named men's tennis head coach at Texas - San Antonio earlier this month.
A native of Douglaston, N.Y., Ward was a four-time Colonial Athletic Association All-Conference selection in both singles and doubles play, and competed at the NCAA Tournament in 2005 during his undergraduate career at William & Mary. After graduating in 2006 with a degree in finance, Ward played in the ATP and USTA pro circuits, competing in approximately 50 national and international professional tournaments.
In 2009, Ward picked up his baseball cleats, and signed a professional contract with the Harlingen WhiteWings of the United League where he was an outfielder and leadoff hitter.
