Welte Advances at ITF Futures

CELAYA, MEXICO – Former NC State men’s tennis player Christian Welte has toppled three world-ranked players to advance to the semifinals round of the ITF Futures Mexico Tournament. The event marks the fourth pro circuit tournament that Welte has played in this year.
Welte came from behind to top Conor Pollock (No. 761) in the first round, picking up a 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-2 win before downing Adam Thompson (No. 1043), 6-4, 1-0 ret.
Earlier today Welte won a three-set bout over the 575th ranked player in the world, besting Nima Roshan, 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.
Welte, who graduated in December of 2009, will face Victor Romero (No. 662) tomorrow.
