W. Tennis Loses 4-2 to Wake in ACC Tournament

CARY, N.C. - In a match that lasted well over four hours, the No. 41 NC State women's tennis team lost a heartbreaker 4-2 to No. 53 Wake forest in the ACC Tournament. The loss moves the Wolfpack to 12-10 on the year.
The doubles point has been critical to the Pack this year, but Wake Forest came out on top. Lenka Hojckova and Tana Illova lost 8-6 to Sasha Kulikova and Katarina Reveche. Berkeley Brock and Chloe Smith were beaten 8-6 by Ryann Cutillo and Martina Pavelec to give the Demon Deacons the point. Sandhya Nagaraj and Daria Petrovic were tied 8-8 with Aileen Davis and Emilee Malvehy before the point was clinched.
The Pack came out firing in singles play, taking the first two matches. Illova made quick work of Cutillo, beating her 6-2, 6-4. Petrovic followed with a 6-2, 6-2 drubbing of Reveche.
The Demon Deacons came back and won the next three matches to seal the win. No. 69 Nagaraj in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 to No. 47 Pavelec. Hojckova lost 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Brock battled back and forth with Kulikova, but fell short 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (3) to give the Demon Deacons the win.
With the match decided Smith was tied 6-6 in her third set with Davis after winning the first 6-1, and losing the second 6-4.
The women's tennis team will now wait to hear if it is selected for the NCAA tournament later this month, and if any players are chosen for the individual championships.
