TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – NC State lost both games of an ACC doubleheader at No. 16 Florida State on Saturday, falling 4-2 and 5-0. The Wolfpack now stands at 23-17 (6-5 ACC) on the year, while the Seminoles climb to 36-7 (8-3 ACC).
Florida State took the opening tilt by a 4-2 score. Lindsay Campana (15-6) allowed two earned runs and fanned six as Sarah Hamilton (18-4) got the win.
FSU got game one started by hanging a crooked number in the first. Carly Wynn led off with a single up the middle, moved to second on a wild pitch and then scored when Shayla Jackson singled to left. Jackson later crossed the plate from third on a fielder’s choice back to the circle, and Campana walked a run in by issuing a free pass to Courtney Rosen with the bases loaded to make it 3-0.
The Noles added a fourth run in the bottom of the third. With runners on first and third, Morgan Bullock broke to swipe second. Alyssa Allbritten’s throw from behind the plate then nailed Bullock in the helmet and ricocheted into left, allowing Ashley Stager to score.
The Wolfpack cut the Noles lead in half with a two-run fifth. Allbritten walked and Krystal Hawkins took her place at first. Kristine Bechtholdt then doubled, scoring Hawkins, and took third on an errant relay throw from Bullock. Alyssa Ishibashi then knocked in Bechtholdt with a blooper into shallow left.
NC State dropped game two 5-0. Stephanie Call (6-6) allowed three earned runs in five innings, while Terese Gober (17-3) picked up the decision. Morgan Peeler worked the sixth in the circle for the Pack, allowing one earned run.
Allbritten went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Jen Lapicki quickly put FSU up 2-0 with a double to left-center in the bottom of the first. She later doubled that with a two-run single in the bottom of the second.
Tiffani Brown made it 5-0 FSU with a sac-fly to center in the sixth.
NC State and Florida State will wrap up the series tomorrow, Sunday, April 11, with a 12 noon first pitch.
