RALEIGH, N.C. – Stephanie Call (3-1) allowed just two hits and the Wolfpack offense supplied 12 as NC State rolled Stony Brook 9-3 at the Wolfpack Challenge on Saturday, March 6.
The win moves the Wolfpack to 11-8, while the Seawolves fall to 3-5.
Eight Wolfpack players recorded hits, with Bridget Desbois leading the way on a 3-for-4 clip. Allison Presnell and Landon Warren each had two hits, and Alyssa Allbritten drove in three runs.
Two Wolfpack hits and five walks aided the Pack in a four-run top of the second. Alyssa Struzenberg (2-3) struggled with her control, allowing a run to score on a wild pitch and walking in three more with the bases loaded. She was then lifted in favor of Casey Jacobs, who retired the first batter she faced to end the frame.
Call brought Krystal Hawkins in from second on an RBI single in the top of the third to make it 5-0. Hawkins pinch-ran for Desbois, who had a base hit of her own.
Two Stony Brook errors helped the Pack bring in another run in the top of the fourth, as Allbritten reached on an error and later scored on an errant throw from third on a Toni Ann Williford grounder.
Vicki Kavitsky cut the Pack’s lead in half with a three-run shot in the bottom of the fourth.
The Pack tacked on three more runs in the top of the fifth. Katie Mansilla singled and scored on an error, and Allbritten brought in two more with a bases clearing triple.
NC State will take on Longwood at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Sunday, March 7, in its final game at the Wolfpack Challenge.
