Kastanek Earns Second Rookie of the Week Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the second time in the last month, NC State freshman guard Marissa Kastanek has earned Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Rookie of the Week honors. She scored a team-high 19 points in a victory over Virginia Tech on Sunday to garner the award on Monday.
The rookie from Lincoln, Neb., finished yesterday's game against the Hokies shooting three-of-six from three-point range. Kastanek also hauled in five rebounds and had four steals in helping snap a three-game losing streak for the Wolfpack (13-10, 3-5 ACC).
Kastanek leads all league freshmen in three-pointers made with 38 and is second among rookies in the ACC by averaging 10.2 points per game.
She is also contributing 3.3 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.4 assists in starting all 23 games for the Pack. The Wolfpack's third-leading point producer has scored in double figures 11 times, including a pair of 20-point efforts.
The Wolfpack visits No. 8 Duke on Thursday in Durham, N.C., at 7 p.m.
NC State will host its annual "Hoops 4 Hope" game this Sunday against Miami at 5:30 p.m. The fifth installment of the breast cancer awareness and fund-raising event held at Reynolds Coliseum will be shown on ESPN2.
