RALEIGH, N.C. - Freshman Marissa Kastanek scored a game-high 19 points to send NC State to a 70-57 ACC women's basketball victory over Virginia Tech on Sunday at Reynolds Coliseum.
NC State (13-10, 3-5 ACC) also got 15 points from Amber White and 12 from Bonae Holston.
Lindsay Biggs had 21 points for Virginia Tech (12-11, 2-7 ACC).
NC State jumped on the Hokies right out of halftime with seven of the first nine points of the second half to grab a commanding 17-point edge - 42-25. White and Holston did all the scoring in staking the Pack to its large lead.
The lead stayed in double digits the entire second half for the Wolfpack. The lead was trimmed to 11 midway through, but Kastanek was left wide open in the corner for three and White added a pair from the stripe and it was back to a 57-41 advantage.
The lead grew to as many as 19 points late in the second half as the Pack improved to 11-0 all-time against the Hokies.
Also aiding in the victory was 25 turnovers for Virginia Tech and NC State shot a season-best 91.7 percent from the free throw line.
Down 14-4 early in the first half, the Pack closed the stanza by out-scoring Virginia Tech 29-9 over the final 13:36 to earn a 33-23 lead at the half.
The Hokies connected from long range three times in the early going to gain the 10-point cushion.
But the Pack stormed back with 12 straight points to take its first lead of the game, 16-14, after an old-fashioned three-point play from Nikitta Gartrell midway through the opening half.
Gartrell wound up scoring five straight points midway through the run and White took over in the late stage of the first half by repeatedly driving to the hoop and either converting or getting to the line.
Additionally, Kastanek was deadly from range, canning 2-of-3 attempts from beyond the arc to pace the Wolfpack with 10 points before halftime.
Biggs had 10 of her own to lead Virginia Tech, including a three-point heave from mid court just before the intermission horn sounded.
