Kastanek Making Case For ACC Rookie of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Marissa Kastanek is making a strong case for ACC Rookie of the Year after earning her third rookie of the week honor on Monday.
Kastanek led NC State (16-11, 6-6 ACC) to a pair of victories in a span of 43 hours this past weekend by averaging 17.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. The newcomer shot a staggering 69.2 percent (9-of-13) from 3-point range and 52.4 percent (11-of-21) overall from the field.
Kastanek opened the weekend with 17 points on the strength of five 3-pointers, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in a 73-62 win over Boston College on Friday.
On Sunday, the Lincoln, Neb., native scored 17 points, with four more threes, tallied six rebounds and had a season-best five assists in a 74-63 win at North Carolina.
Last week’s victories moved NC State from ninth to a tie for fifth in the ACC standings with one week left in the regular season.
Kastanek ranks second among ACC freshmen in scoring at 11.0 points per game and has made a rookie-best 51 three-pointers in 27 contests played this season.
She leads all freshmen in scoring at 12.2 ppg in conference games and is the only first-year player to garner three rookie of the week honors this season in the ACC.
The Wolfpack visits Wake Forest on Thursday in Winston-Salem, N.C., at 7 p.m. NC State will close out the campaign Sunday at home for Senior Day when Georgia Tech arrives in Raleigh for a 2 p.m., tussle at Reynolds Coliseum.
