Wolfpack Sweeps LSU at WFU Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - NC State women's tennis scored several wins, including seven singles wins to sweep LSU, Friday at the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Wake Forest Invitational boasts a format similar to the regular season matches the Wolfpack will compete in during the spring season. Wake Forest, Furman, Tennessee, Louisiana State, and NC State are matched up according to team in singles and doubles competition. A points system will determine an overall winner at the conclusion of the weekend.
NC State opened with two wins out of three doubles matches against Tennessee during the morning session. Sandhya Nagaraj and Sanaa Bhambri teamed up to knock off Alda/Nichols 8-6. Ashley Miller and Christy Sipes defeated McMurray/Szekely 8-6. Tana Illova and Joelle Kissell fell to Wofford/Meredith 8-3.
Later in the day, the Wolfpack dropped two of three doubles matches to Wake Forest. Nagaraj and Bhambri lost 8-6 to Talbert/Duncan. Illova and Miller fell 8-2 to Pavelec/Cutillo. Kissell and Sipes paired to upend Mydlowska/Malvehy 8-4.
In singles play, NC State stitched together a perfect 7-0 record against LSU. Bhambri led the way with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Whitney Wolf.
Nagaraj scored a 6-3, 6-2 win against Kaitlin Burns. Illova dropped Yvette Vlaar 6-3, 6-2, as well. Kissell triumphed over Ebie Wilson 4-6, 6-3, ret. Chloe Smith defeated Kylie Adamek 7-5, 6-2. Miller nearly shutout Hayley Everett 6-1, 6-0.
"It was great to see everyone get a win today," said NC State head coach Hans Olsen. "The girls fought for every point, which is what we wanted to see. Heading into the weekend, we want to see more of the same and close out the fall season on a high note."
Saturday, NC State will square off against LSU in doubles competition, before closing the tournament with singles play versus Tennessee Sunday.
