RALEIGH, N.C. -- With the regulars in the middle of a two-week training cycle for NCAA Regionals next weekend, NC State will send several backups and redshirts to the Wake Med Soccer and Cross Country Complex in Cary on Saturday for the Pack Invitational.
The men's race will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the women's race at approximately 10:30. Both will be 5k races.
The NC State men will line up just two runners in uniform for the Pack Invitational, and the Wolfpack will not figure in the team scoring. Junior Thomas Petersen and sophomore Assir Abushouk will be the only runners competing for NC State in the men's race.
Adam Henken, Trey Geiger, Michael Mansy, John Sharpe, Bryan Spreitzer and John Wolfe all will run unattached. Henken is a senior transfer from Kentucky who is sitting out the 2010 season due to transfer rules. The others are true freshmen who are redshirting.
NC State will field a team in the women's race, featuring juniors Amanda Burger and Paige Woodard, and sophomores Amira Chowyuk, Anna Gillespie, Cora Shull and Leah Vaughn.
In addition, four NC State women runners will compete unattached in the Wolfpack Invitational: junior Tiayonna Blackmon, sophomore Samantha Norman, and freshmen Kenyetta Iyevebele and Tess Wynn. Blackmon, Iyevbele and Wynn are redshirting. Norman is sitting out the season after transferring from Kentucky.
