Swimmers Continue at GT Invite

ATLANTA, Ga. - NC State swimmers posted eight all-time top-10 school marks on Saturday, Nov. 20, during the second day of action at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Five all-time top-10 swims were recorded by the women's team, while the men added three and an NCAA "B" cut in the 800-freestyle relay.
The women's team jumped three spots to fifth place with 228 points, while the men slid to sixth with 375.5.
Morgan Robertson, Jessica Ward, Zina Grogg and Marifrances Henley took sixth in the 200-medley relay with a 1:44.34, while Jennifer Kopenitz (4:22.20) and Ward (4:27.09) swam in the 400 IM finals. Grogg's 55.67 in the 100 butterfly is the fourth-best in school history, while Julianna Prim's 55.83 is tied for sixth.
Henley placed eighth in the 200 freestyle on a 1:50.04, while Lauren Poore (1:51.98) and Erica Waters (1:51.38) had strong outings. Ward recorded a 1:05.21 in the 100 breaststroke.
Robertson's 56.23 in the 100 backstroke stands fourth all-time, as Kaitlin Mills' 56.78 is fifth. Prim, Waters, Poore and Henley placed fourth in the 800-freestyle relay on a 7:27.62, with Prim's leadoff leg of 1:50.41 clocking in as the seventh-fastest 200 freestyle in school history.
On the men's side, Ivan Kopas, Ian Bishop, Barrett Miesfeld and Conor Brennan placed sixth in the 200-medley relay on a 1:31.05, while Kohl Hurdle (4:01.56), Andrew Tollefson (4:06.03), Jimmy Ross (4:09.74) and Maximum Litvinov (4:12.22) took part in the 400 IM finals. Miesfeld's 48.58 in the 100 butterfly is the eighth-fastest in school history.
Jonathan Boffa (1:39.49), Matt Thomas (1:40.88) and Ben Mechak (1:41.46) swam the 200 freestyle, and Bishop's 55.87 in the 100 breaststroke is the 10-best ever at NC State. Kopas improved on his personal best in the 100 backstroke, clocking in with a 49.07 for fifth-best in school history.
Brown, Thomas, Mechak and Boffa ended the day by hitting an NCAA "B" cut and taking fourth in the 800-freestyle relay with a 6:42.07.
Tomorrow, Sunday, Nov. 21, will serve as the final day of the Georgia Tech Invitational.
