White Shoots Wolfpack Over Creighton

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State captured the Sheraton Raleigh Invitational championship with an 84-71 victory over Creighton Saturday night at Reynolds Coliseum.
The win pushed the Wolfpack Women to 2-0 in the young season, but dropped the Jays to 1-1.
Amber White scored a career-high 29 points in the victory, going 11-for-19 from the field and dishing out four assists to go along with five rebounds in the winning effort. Marissa Kastanek chipped in 18 points, 14 of which came in the second half, to go along with three steals. Lakeesa Daniel rounded out the Wolfpack Women in double-figures, scoring 13 points and bringing down six rebounds.
White, Kastanek and Bonae Holston were selected to the all-tournament team, with White earning MVP honors with her career-high performance tonight.
The fist half was a back-and-forth battle that consisted of six ties and 15 lead changes. NC State made the first run of the game, scoring five straight and taking a 9-4 lead at the 15:53 mark. Creighton then countered, holding the Wolfpack scoreless over the next three minutes to take a 10-9 lead. Marissa Kastanek broke the drought at 12:35 to put the Pack back up, 12-10.
White led the way for the Pack in the opening frame, scoring 15 points off of 7-of-12 shooting. Overall, the Wolfpack Women shot 53.1% in the first 20 minutes of play en route to a 38-84 lead at the break.
NC State held Creighton scoreless for the opening 3:29 of the second half, and extended the lead to 46-34 in that stretch. Creighton, however, responded again with a run of its own, cutting the Wolfpack lead to four, 48-44.
With 7:43 left in the game, Emili Tasler swiped a Creighton pass and, running the floor, hit Marissa in stride for two of the NC State’s 24 fast break points in the contest. The score extended the Pack’s lead to 67-51, it’s largest of the game.
The Wolfpack shot an impressive 51.6% from the field in the game, including 50% from three-point range in the 84-71 victory.
The Pack returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 17 to take on the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa, Ala., at 7 p.m.
