PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF. - NC State's Sanaa Bhambri and Sandhya Nagaraj endured their first losses at the ITA All-American Thursday in Pacific Palisades, Calif. after compiling nearly a week's worth of unblemished results.
Bhambri opened the day by qualifying for the main draw thanks to a win over Florida's Sofie Oyen in three sets 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Unfortunately for the Wolfpack, Bhambri's win would be the last of the day.
Nagaraj had her effort cut short one match shy of the main draw by falling to USC's Danielle Lao 6-4, 6-0.
In main draw singles, Bhambri's first round match against Bianca Eichkorn of Miami resulted in a 6-3, 6-2 victory for Eichkorn.
Bhambri and Nagaraj suffered their first loss as a twosome this season as Virginia's Fraser/Tomljanovic team pulled out a 9-7 victory in the first round of the main draw doubles. Bhambri and Nagaraj had previously defeated Fraser and Tomljanovic 9-7 in the semifinals of the UVa Fall Invitational, the Wolfpack's season-opening event.
Bhambri and Nagaraj will return to action on Friday in the main draw doubles consolation bracket.
