Pulgar, Thomson Advance to Round of 16 at ITA Carolinas

NC State’s Jaime Pulgar and Dave Thomson each collected two singles wins to play their way into the round of 16 at the ITA Carolinas Regional on Saturday, Oct. 16. Pulgar and Thomson combined for four of the Wolfpack’s six wins on the day, with Rob Lowe and Dominic Hodgson each picking up a decision of their own.
Pulgar made quick work of Clemson’s Juan Bolona, 6-1, 6-0, in the round of 64 before besting South Carolina’s Alexander Kostanov, 6-3, 6-2, in the round of 32. Thomson cruised past Charlotte’s Felix Bernhoerster, 6-1, 6-2 , prior to topping North Carolina’s No. 66 Brennan Boyajian, 7-6(5), 6-4, for the second time this fall.
Lowe outlasted Winthrop’s Sergey Belov, 6-3, 7-5, while Hodgson downed UNC Greensboro’s Ahmet Sapioglu, 6-4, 6-1.
Action will resume tomorrow, Sunday, Oct. 17, at the ITA Carolinas Regional. Pulgar is scheduled to face UNC Greensboro’s Orcun Seyrek at 9 a.m., while Thomson will face Campbell’s Davy Sum at a time to be determined.
