CARY, N.C. — Redshirt-freshman Ryanna Henderson took fourth place to lead NC State to a second-place finish Friday in the women’s 5k college race at the Great American Cross Country Festival at the Wake Med cross country course.
Navy, paced by Jess Palacio’s 28-second victory in the individual race, won the team competition with a score of 27 points. The Wolfpack was second with 43. UNC Pembroke was a distant third in the 11-team field. Pembroke finished with 123 points.
Henderson ran the 5k course in a time of 18:37.1, an improvement of 49 seconds over her time on the same course two weeks ago at the Wolfpack Invitational. Redshirt-junior Marika Walker was sixth in a time of 18:47.1, which was a 50-second improvement over her time at the Wolfpack Invitational.
Redshirt-senior Bona Jones took 10th for the Wolfpack in a time of 18:53.3, an improvement of 22 seconds on her time of two weeks ago at the Wolfpack Invitational.
Several NC State runners competed unattached. Sophomore Jordan Jenkins finished third in a time of 18:20.4, and junior Tiayonna Blackmon was fifth at 18:46.8.
The Great American also featured an 8k college men’s race, but NC State did not field a team in this race.
