Kastanek Earns ACC Rookie of the Week Honor

GREENSBORO, N.C. – NC State freshman guard Marissa Kastanek earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Rookie of the Week honor for the period ending Jan. 17.
Kastanek scored a team-high 18 points in an upset opportunity of No. 16 Florida State on Sunday, but eventually fell 74-71 after holding an eight-point lead with less than five minutes to play. The rookie from Lincoln, Neb., finished the game with four 3-pointers as part of 7-of-12 shooting.
Kastanek currently leads all league freshmen in treys made as she averages 1.7 per game and has made 31 three-pointers in 18 games thus far this season.
For the season, she averages 10.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game. She has scored in double figures 10 times, including a pair of 20-point efforts.
The Wolfpack are back in action Friday at home against Wake Forest at 6:30 p.m.
