Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's tennis team opens up spring play at home on Sunday, Jan. 17 against Gardner-Webb and North Carolina Central. The Wolfpack is ranked No. 52 in the country by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association heading into its first match.
The Pack is a mix of veterans and new faces. The top performer from last year is sophomore Jaime Pulgar. He continued his stellar play in the fall, winning six of his eight matches. Five of Pulgar's wins were over ACC opponents, including two against North Carolina.
Freshman Dave Thomson had a nice fall debut, winning six of his seven matches. Thomson had two wins over players from Florida State. Sophomore Akash Gujarati won four out of six matches. After redshirting last year, Will Rollinson got his first two victories in a Wolfpack uniform during the fall.
Juniors David Chermak and Rob Lowe will help anchor the Pack, while senior Frideric Prandecki brings a depth of experience.
Sophomore Dominic Hodgson will be making his debut, along with freshmen Fernando Banos and Matt Thomson.
The Wolfpack's first match against Gardner-Webb will take place on Jan. 17 at 12:00 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, followed by a 5:00 p.m. match against NCCU.
