RALEIGH, N.C. – The first season of NC State women’s basketball under head coach Kellie Harper will feature a total of 16 home games, as released Friday by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Wolfpack will also play 16 games against teams that advanced to postseason tournaments last year, including nine contests against teams that competed in the 2009 NCAA Tournament.
“The upcoming season holds a lot of challenges for our team,” said Harper. “From the non-conference schedule to ACC play, we will face tough competition night in and night out. We are excited and anxious about the season and the opportunities that lie in front of us.”
For the second straight season the Pack will open the regular season by hosting its own tournament the first weekend of the season. The Kellie Harper era will officially begin Friday, Nov. 13 against Florida International at 8 p.m. The game will be preceded by Vermont and Western Michigan at 6 p.m. The respective winners and losers will square off the following day in the second and final day of the tournament.
NC State will then host a pair of non-conference games the next week, including Florida Atlantic on Tuesday, Nov. 17, and Davidson on Saturday, Nov. 20. The Wildcats, coached by former Wolfpack assistant coach Annette Watts, is also an old rival of Harper’s during her time in the Southern Conference.
The Pack then hits the road for the first time to square off against perennial NCAA power Old Dominion on Mon. Nov 23 in Norfolk, Va.
That is followed by the annual Thanksgiving trip that the Wolfpack take each year. This season’s stop takes the team to Nashville, Tenn., for the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament. The Pack will take on Northwestern State on Friday, Nov. 27. The next day will feature either the host Commodores or Austin Peay.
NC State returns to the friendly confines of Reynolds Coliseum to host Wisconsin in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge on Thursday, Dec. 3.
The non-conference schedule also features home dates against TCU (Dec. 6), Winthrop (Dec. 19), Seton Hall (Dec. 28) and Columbia (Jan. 4).
Other road non-league games will take the Pack to South Carolina (Dec. 13), Georgetown (Dec. 22) and to Southern California (Dec. 30).
NC State will also be playing an exhibition contest against North Greenville on November 2 at Reynolds.
The ACC season gets underway at home against Maryland on Thursday, Jan. 7. The Pack will once again face Boston College, North Carolina and Wake Forest both home and away this season.
In other league contests, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Miami and Virginia Tech will visit Raleigh, while the Pack visits Clemson, Duke, Florida State and Virginia.
The fifth annual Hoops 4 Hope game takes place Sunday, Feb. 14 against Miami and is scheduled for an ESPN2 broadcast at 5:30 p.m.
The ACC Tournament is back at the Greensboro Coliseum for the 10 straight year and will be played March 4-7.
