Weinacker Heads to NCAA Championships

RALEIGH, N.C. Senior Jay Weinacker will compete on Wednesday, May 20, in the NCAA Individual Men’s Tennis Championships in College Station, Texas. Weinacker will face Marek Michalicka of Wisconsin at 2:30 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center at Texas A&M University in the round of 64. This is the first time Weinacker has competed in the Individual Singles Championships, but it is not his first trip to the individual championships, having competed in the doubles championships last year.
Weinacker is currently ranked 36th in the nation according to the ITA rankings. He went 14-10 at the No. 1 singles spot for the Pack during the spring, and four of those wins were over ranked opponents. Weinacker broke the NC State career singles record, blasting past the mark, to 104 wins where he is currently. His No. 36 national ranking is his highest of his career. Weinacker earned All-ACC honors for the second straight year after going 7-4 in conference play.
Michalicka, the 57th ranked player, went 14-7 during the regular season, playing a majority of the time at the No. 2 spot. He had three wins over ranked opponents and was an All-Big Ten selection.
