State enters the non-conference series at 18-16. Hannah Ojeda leads the team at the plate with a .306 average, while Alyssa Ishibashi’s 26 hits is a team best. Kristine Bechtholdt carries seven home runs on the year, while Allison Presnell has six and Bridget Desbois owns four. Those three have formed the nucleus of the Wolfpack’s scoring attack, with Desbois owning 19 RBIs, Presnell having 18 and Bechtholdt knocking in 17 runs.
The Wolfpack pitching staff has been solid by and large, combining for a 1.93 ERA. Lindsay Campana (9-7, 1 save) posts a 1.50 ERA on her own with 10 complete games under her belt and 116 strikeouts. McKenzie (7-7, 1 save) carries a 2.41 ERA with 93 K’s. Morgan Peeler (1-2, 2.57 ERA) and Stephanie Call (1-0, 2.00 ERA) have also shown tremendous promise when handed the ball in the circle.
Scouting Charlotte
Charlotte posts a 21-8 record, including a 5-1 road slate. The 49ers have won three-straight, downing South Carolina at home and sweeping a doubleheader with La Salle.
Serena Smith fronts Charlotte’s offense with a .384 batting average while Keri Palma and Tenaya Tucker are hitting .338 and .337 respectively. Smith also leads the team in RBIs (30), total bases (51) and hits (38).
Emily Jeffery (15-4) and Katy Hackett (5-2) have tossed the vast majority of frames for the 49ers, with Jeffery pitching 119.2 and Hackett hurling 58. Jeffrey has crafted a 1.35 ERA, while Hackett’s stands at 2.66.
The All-Time Series
NC State leads the all-time series between the two programs, 6-2. State has won four in a row, including a doubleheader sweep last year in Charlotte.
Blame It On the Rain
Mother Nature has flexed her muscle this season when it comes to keeping NC State off of the diamond, resulting in 11 lost games. State sat out the opening week of the season, only to have two games cancelled at its first tournament appearance in Houston, Texas. Two weeks later - at it’s own Wolfpack Challenge in Raleigh - the Pack had four more games called because of torrential downpour. The Pack traveled to Virginia Tech for a three-game ACC-opening series, only to have each game cancelled because of the weather, and a home doubleheader against Radford was called off after the first game had started. A 12th contest - on the road at Winthrop - was rescheduled due to snow.
Campana Among League’s Best
Lindsay Campana’s 1.50 ERA is seventh among all ACC hurlers. Her 116 K’s is also fifth-best, while her pair of shutouts is ninth. With 112.1 innings of work under her belt, Campana has also pitched the seventh-most frames in the conference.
Cooper Gets On Base
Claudia Cooper posts a .448 on-base percentage during ACC play, eighth-best in the league.
