No. 16 FSU Stops No. 48 Men's Tennis

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 48 NC State men's tennis team fell to No. 16 Florida State, 6-1, on Sunday, April 5, in Raleigh, N.C. at the JW Isenhour Tennis Center. Freshman Jaime Pulgar was the lone Wolfpack to win his singles match. The Pack falls to 9-12 (3-6 ACC), and the Seminoles improve to 17-7 (6-2 ACC).
Florida State swept all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Clint Bowles and Chris Cloer defeated freshman Justin Jendruch and sophomore Rob Lowe, 8-4, at No. 3, and senior Jay Weinacker and Pulgar lost to Andrew Bailey and Maciek Sykut, 8-6, at No. 2. The 25th-nationally ranked pair of Jean-Yves Aubone and Vahid Mirzadeh took down senior Christian Welte and redshirt freshman Julian Sullivan, 9-7, at the top doubles spot to complete the sweep.
Redshirt freshman Eric Turner fell to Cloer, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 6 singles. The 49th-ranked Bowles defeated 118th-ranked Welte, 6-4, 7-6(2), at the second doubles spot.
Sykut secured the win for Florida State with a third set 6-1, 2-6, 6-2, win over senior Derek Stephens at No. 3 singles. Weinacker, who is ranked 36th nationally, fell to 11th-ranked Aubone, 7-6(5), 7-6(3), at the top singles spot.
Pulgar won the Pack's lone point in a third-set after splitting the first two. He dominated the last set to take the 6-4, 6-7(8-6), 1-0(10-5), win at the fourth singles spot. Sophomore David Chermak fell, 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 1-0(10-6), at No. 5 singles.
The Pack will wrap up the regular season with two final home matches next weekend. NC State will face Virginia Tech on April 10 at 2:30 p.m. and then the Pack will host Virginia on April 11 for Senior Day at the JW Isenhour Tennis Center.
