Softball, App. State to Battle on Sunday

RALEIGH, N.C. NC State will host Appalachian State for a single game this Sunday, May 3. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. with live stats available via GoPack.com.
The Pack stands at 22-24 (5-13 ACC) after taking two of three at Boston College this past weekend in Chestnut Hill, Mass. Alyssa Ishibashi leads the team in batting average (.276) and hits (37), while Alyssa Allbritten has 36 hits. Bridget Desbois’ 22 RBIs is also a team high, with Kristine Bechtholdt adding 18. Both Bechtholdt and Allison Presnell have seven long balls on the year.
Ishibashi, Lauren Peters and Eliza Jacobellis all had big outings this past weekend against BC. Ishibashi and Peters both had six hits apiece, while Jacobellis added four hits with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Ishibashi also drove in two runs and scored twice.
Pitcher Lindsay Campana was named ACC Co-Pitcher of the Week this past Monday after becoming the first ACC pitcher this season to toss a no-hitter in a conference game when she blanked the Eagles this past Saturday. She fanned 12 and allowed just three walks en route to the first no-hitter of her career, 12th in the six-year history of the Wolfpack program.
Hours later she earned her second victory of the day, tossing 6.2 innings of relief as the Pack secured an 8-7 decision over the Eagles in nine innings.
In all the junior from Templeton, Calif. tossed 13.2 innings, giving up seven hits, five walks and two earned runs while recording 14 K’s against 55 batters faced.
Campana owns a 1.87 ERA with a 12-10 record on the year. Mendy McKenzie, who has been solid in her own right this year, is 8-12 with a 2.43 ERA.
Appalachian State holds a 25-26 record after falling to Virginia Tech, 7-6, this past Wednesday in Blacksburg, Va. Katie Boyd’s .390 batting clip, 12 doubles, 16 home runs, 44 runs scored and 43 RBIs lead the roster, as does Sarah Rappe’s 53 hits.
The Mountaineers have used four pitchers this season with Kayla Richardson (13-15, 2.44 ERA) and Ashley Stubbs (10-10, 3.23 ERA) hurling the majority of the innings. Richardson has worked 181 innings, while Stubbs has tossed 117.
NC State holds a 3-1 lead in the all-time series.
Following Sunday’s contest the Pack will resume play at the ACC Championships, May 8-10. That tournament, hosted by NC State, will be held at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Softball Stadium.
