Five Run Seventh Lifts Softball Over Hofstra
3/7/2009 12:00:00 AM | Softball
CLEARWATER, Fla. Two outs away from picking up a loss, NC State belted out five runs on seven hits in a five-run seventh inning to topple Hofstra, 5-3. Allison Presnell went 2-for-2 with two RBIs and Landon Warren provided two hits of her own, while Lindsay Campana (3-3) racked up 10 K’s in a complete game effort.
Erin Wade (1-2) was handed the loss, giving up four earned runs and five hits in 1.2 innings of work.
The win pushes NC State to 7-6 on the year, while the Pride dips to 4-6.
Hofstra got three runs on two hits and an error in the bottom of the fourth. Trisha Dreslinksi crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice and Sarah Michalowski brought two more around with a laser into right.
Warren did her best to start a Wolfpack rally in the top of the sixth, leading off with a single and swiping second, but she was left stranded.
State’s first two batters reached in the top of the sixth as Presnell singled up the middle and Bridget Desbois walked, but the Pack couldn’t eek any runs out of the situation.
It was Lauren Peters who started State’s rally in the top of the seven, nailing a one-out double to left and moving to third when Alyssa Ishibashi legged out an infield single. Hannah Ojeda then delivered an RBI single up the middle, and Presnell tied the score at 3-all with a bases-clearing double to dead center that nearly left the yard. Stephanie Call followed with a single to left, giving State it’s first lead of the evening. Allbritten then cracked a single into left to load the bases, and Kristine Bechtholdt scored the Pack’s fifth run when Bethaney Wells reached on an error at second.
NC State will take on South Florida at 4 p.m. GoPack.com will carry the action with live stats.
