Super Sub Holston Named 6th Player of the Year

GREENSBORO, N.C. Another day, another award for NC State’s Bonae Holston. Wednesday she earned the second-annual ACC Sixth Player of the Year honor, announced by ACC Commissioner John Swofford.
The ACC Sixth Player of the Year accolade is nominated and selected by a vote of the league’s 12 ACC women’s basketball head coaches.
Holston, a freshman from Newport News, Va., ranks second on the Wolfpack squad in scoring with 12.8 points per game in ACC play. She played in all 14 ACC games with no starts and 29 games overall this season with four starts.
Holston has 9.5 points per game overall this season and ranks second on the team in rebounding with 5.7 boards per game. She also ranks fourth among league freshman in scoring and rebounding, but first in ACC only games.
The super sub was named to the ACC All-Freshman team on Tuesday, after garnering her second ACC Rookie of the Week honor on Monday.
The Wolfpack (13-16) will play ninth-seeded Wake Forst (18-10) on Thursday at 3 p.m., in the pending ACC Tournament. The game will be broadcast live on the league’s regional television package (RSN). The two teams tied with a 5-9-league slate, but NC State swept both regular seasons meetings - a 59-51 victory in Raleigh on February 12 and a 65-63 overtime win in Winston-Salem on February 17.
The winner of Thursday's game will move on to face No. 1 seed Maryland at 3 p.m., on Friday and will also be televised on RSN.
NC State has won all three previous games against Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament, but the two teams haven't met since 1991 when the tournament was held in Fayetteville, N.C.
The 32nd Annual tournament is set to tip-off at approximately 11 a.m. ET on Thursday, March 5, and will conclude with a 1 p.m. championship contest on Sunday, March 8. The title game as well as the semifinals showings will be broadcast by Fox Sports Net (FSN), while the 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. games on Thursday, March 5, and Friday, March 6, will be televised on RSN.
