Women's Tennis Falls to No. 6 Georgia Tech

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team fell to No. 6 Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 29, in Raleigh, N.C. at the JW Isenhour Tennis Center. The Pack falls to 4-13 (1-6 ACC) and the Yellow Jackets improve to 13-5 (6-1 ACC) on the season.
Georgia Tech won two of the three doubles matches to take the first point. Senior Neils Barringer and freshman Diana Mortlock fell to Irina Falconi and Sasha Krupina, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles, and Amanda McDowell and Lynn Blau defeated junior Daria Petrovic and freshman Pender Sessoms, 8-3, at No. 3.
The 45th-ranked duo of junior Berkeley Brock and sophomore Lenka Hojckova pulled an upset over 20th-ranked Christy Striplin and Noelle Hickey No. 1 after the Yellow Jacket pair tried to come back from behind. The Pack duo beat their Striplin ahd Hickey, 9-8.
McDowell, who is ranked 18th, defeated Brock, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2, and 43rd-ranked Hickey beat Petrovic, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3. Barringer fell to No. 46 Striplin, 6-1, 6-3, at the fourth singles spot, and No. 99 Hojckova lost to the 7th-ranked Falconi, 6-2, 7-6(4), at No. 1.
Mortlock won the Pack's lone point with a third set victory over Krupina at No. 5 singles. After dominating the first set, and then falling in a tie-break in the second, Mortlock ended up with the 6-1, 7-6(1), 1-0(10-3) win. Sophomore Jackie Ussery fell to Viet Ha Ngo, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 6.
The Pack will be on the road for the remainder of the season, and will next be in action against Miami in Coral Gables, Fla. on Friday, April 3.
