COLLEGE PARK, Md. NC State and Maryland split an ACC softball doubleheader today, Saturday, March 28 at Taylor Stadium. The Pack took the first game (1-0) before falling in the second (4-3) despite a late offensive surge in the seventh inning.
State took the first game 1-0 behind a solo shot from Alyssa Allbritten in the top of the fourth inning. Lindsay Campana (8-5) tossed a complete-game three-hitter, striking out seven along the way, while Kristine Bechtholdt added two hits.
Kerry Hickey (7-4) suffered the loss.
The Pack dropped the second affair 4-3. Maryland held a 4-1 lead in the top of the seventh before Toni Ann Williford drew a walk and Allison Presnell clubbed a two-run shot over the fence. An Allbritten double later sent the game-tying run to third in Katie Mansilla, but she was left stranded.
Mendy McKenzie (6-5) took the loss, while Sarah Dooley (7-6) picked up the victory.
NC State and Maryland will wrap up the series tomorrow, Sunday, March 29, at 1 p.m.
