No. 38 Men's Tennis Falls to Clemson

CLEMSON, S.C. - The No. 38 NC State men's tennis team fell to Clemson on Friday, March 27, 5-2, in Clemson, S.C. The Pack won the doubles point after sweeping all three matches and senior Jay Weinacker won his singles match in the third set. The loss puts NC State at 9-8 (3-2 ACC) and Clemson improves to 9-8 (2-4 ACC).
Seniors Derek Stephens and Christian Welte took down Carlos Alvarez and Rok Bizjak, 8-6, at No. 1, and the 79th-nationally ranked team of senior Jay Weinacker and freshman Jaime Pulgar defeated Ike Belk and Kevin Fleck, 9-7, at No. 2. Sophomore Rob Lowe and freshman Justin Jendruch beat Kevin Galloway and Robert Pietrucha, 8-6, at No. 3.
The 65th-ranked singles player Weinacker beat Alvarez, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6, at No. 1.
Bizjak defeated No. 96 Welte, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, at the second singles spot, and Pulgar fell to Fleck, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 3. Stephens lost to Belk, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 4, and redshirt freshman Julian Sullivan fell to Galloway, 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, at No. 5. Freshman Akash Gujarati lost to Wesley Moran, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6.
The Pack will next face No. 57 Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Ga. on Sunday, March 29 before returning home to Raleigh for the rest of the regular season.
