No. 42 Men's Tennis Blanks No. 69 Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 42 NC State men's tennis team swept No. 69 Maryland on Sunday, March 22 to win the second straight ACC match this weekend. The Pack did not let the Terrapins win one match in the 7-0 victory, winning all three doubles and all six singles contests in College Park, Md. With the win, the Pack improves to 9-7 (3-1 ACC) and Maryland falls to 7-7 (1-4 ACC).
Sophomore Rob Lowe and freshman Justin Jendruch took down Alex Aksanov and Mathias Sarrazin, 8-4, at No. 3, and senior Christian Welte and redshirt freshman Julian Sullivan beat Andrew Orban and Boris Fetbroyt, 8-6 at No 1. The No. 79 doubles team of senior Jay Weinacker and freshman Jaime Pulgar capped off the doubles sweep with an 8-6 victory over David Kwon and Nickolai Nielsen at No. 2.
The Pack built on their lead when senior Derek Stephens swiftly took down Sarrazin, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4. Freshman Akash Gujarati beat Aksanov, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6, and Sullivan secured the victory for the Pack with a third set, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, win over Fetbroyt at No. 5.
Pulgar defeated Nielsen, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 3, and No. 96 Welte beat Orban in the third set, 6-2, 1-6, 7-6(3), at No. 2. No. 65 Weinacker completed the sweep with a victory over Kown, 7-6(9-7), 7-6(1), at No. 1.
NC State will compete in its last two road matches next weekend, facing Clemson on Friday, March 27, and then taking on Georgia Tech on Sunday, March 29.
