No. 42 Men's Tennis Travels to No. 28 Duke

RALEIGH, N.C. In the first of five ACC road matches, the No. 42 NC State men’s tennis team will travel to take on No. 28 Duke on Wednesday, March 18. The Wolfpack will compete against the Blue Devils at 3 p.m. in Durham, N.C. The Pack is currently 7-6 (1-0 ACC) on the season after defeating then-No. 29 North Carolina to open ACC play. Duke is 7-3 this season, and it is the first conference match for the Blue Devils. The last time the two teams met, Duke earned a close 4-3 win over NC State.
NC State enters the match on a high note after defeating rival UNC, 5-2, on March 4. Senior Jay Weinacker continues to climb the singles rankings, landing at No. 65 in the ITA’s most recent rankings, after taking down then-No. 23 Clay Donato in the Pack’s victory over North Carolina. He holds an 8-4 record at the No. 1 singles slot this spring. Weinacker is also two wins away from notching his 100th career singles win. Fellow senior Christian Welte is also in the rankings and is currently No. 96 in singles. Weinacker, along with freshman Jaime Pulgar, is No. 79 in doubles, and the duo is currently 10-2 on the season.
Duke is currently on a four-match winning streak, and is 4-0 at home this season. The Blue Devils have two ranked singles players in their line-up, No. 28 Reid Carleton and No. 58 Kiril Dimitrov.
