Hill, Pritt Make Mark at USA Cross Country Championships

NC State freshmen Ryan Hill and Emily Pritt both earned spots on the USA Junior Cross Country team. Hill posted a fourth-place finish Saturday at the 2009 USA Cross Country Championships and World Cross Country Team Trials, held at at the Agricultural History Farm Park in Derwood, Maryland. Pritt was seventh, and was originally the first alternate, but was later added to the team.
The top six finishers in the men’s and women’s races earned spots on the team and will compete at the World Cross Country Championships on March 28, 2009, in Amman, Jordan.
In addition to Hill, the Wolfpack’s Emily Pritt, a freshman on the women’s team, made the women’s USA Junior National team. Hill and Pritt join Bobby Moldovan (2008) and Bona Jones (2007) as members of the current NC State cross country teams to win spots on the USA Junior National team.
Hill was an All-ACC performer and the 2008 ACC men’s rookie of the year after a 13th-place finish at the ACC Cross Country Championships on November 1. He was the Wolfpack’s No. 3 finisher at the NCAA Pre-Nationals, the NCAA Southeast Regional, and the NCAA Championships. Hill was a 2007 Foot Locker All-American out of Hickory (N.C.) High School.
Pritt was the top runner in four of five races for the NC State women’s team, which featured a freshman-dominated lineup throughout the 2008 campaign. Pritt was a three-time all-state runner at North Canton (Ohio) High School. She finished fifth in the 2007 Mid-East Cross Country Championships, which featured top high school runners from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Kentucky.
