ATLANTA, Ga. Sasha Goodlett scored a career-high 20 points in leading Georgia Tech to a 67-54 victory over NC State Sunday afternoon from Alexander Memorial Coliseum.
Sharnise Beal (14 points), Shayla Fields (14 points) and Nikitta Gartrell (11 points) each scored in double figures for NC State (9-14, 1-7 ACC).
Georgia Tech (17-6, 5-4 ACC) focused all game long on pounding the ball into the paint and that paid off by scoring 36 points from close range 10 more than the Pack.
Along with Goodlett’s game-best 20, Iasia Hemingway scored 12 and Alex Montgomery had 11 for Georgia Tech.
The Yellow Jackets held a double figure lead for nearly the entire second half. A Fields free throw cut the Wolfpack’s deficit to 32-25 at the 17:24 mark, but were never able to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit.
A sluggish beginning to the game saw the Pack fall behind early trailed 30-20 at intermission.
NC State missed 13 of its first 16 shots and would go on to shoot 28.1 percent in the first half. Though Georgia Tech wasn’t much better at 35.5 from the field, the Jackets converted 8-of-11 attempts from the free throw line to maintain their advantage throughout the opening 20 minutes.
Beal had her range locked in with eight first-half points on 4-of-6 shooting, while Goodlett did most of her work on the inside with an identical eight in the first stanza of play.
NC State hosts Wake Forest Thursday at 7 p.m. from Reynolds Coliseum.
