GREENSBORO, N.C. NC State’s Bonae Holston earned her first Women’s Basketball Rookie of the Week honor on Monday by the Atlantic Coast Conference sharing the honor with Florida State’s Cierra Bravard.
Holston continued her stellar play in the ACC this past week by averaging 16.0 points (60-percent FG shooting), 5.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals in leading NC State to a 2-0 mark.
The rookie from Newport News, Va., began the week with 20 points (9-for-14 FG), three boards, two steals and two blocks in a come-from-behind 59-51 win over Wake Forest on Thursday. Holston then followed that performance with a 12-point, seven-rebound effort, adding three steals, in another comeback victory over No. 17 Virginia, 60-54, on Sunday during NC State’s Hoops 4 Hope game.
The Wolfpack trailed by 11 points at halftime against Wake Forest and was behind by nine points with 13:47 left in the second half against Virginia.
Holston is fourth on the club in both scoring at 8.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game and leads the team in field goal shooting at 50.8 percent (91-for-179).
The first-year forward has been even more productive in league play, averaging 12.1 points, 7.0 boards per game and is shooting 51.0 percent from the field. Among freshmen, she is second in both scoring and rebounding in ACC contests.
The Wolfpack head to Wake Forest Tuesday having won back-to-back games. The game in Winston-Salem is scheduled for 7 p.m.
