Harper Earns Career Victory No. 100
Head coach Kellie Harper got career victory No. 100 a 79-54 win over Davidson on Friday, Nov. 20. She owns a 101-66 record in six seasons as a head coach.
Free Throw Line Sharpshooters
NC State leads the ACC in free throw shooting at 72.1 percent.
Doubling Up The Double-Double
Lucy Ellison (14 points, 12 rebounds) and Bonae Holston (11 points, 11 rebounds) both recorded double-doubles in the 77-71 setback at No. 21 Vanderbilt on Saturday.
That marked the first time teammates had a double-double in the same game since the 78-72 overtime win over Baylor in the 2007 NCAA Tournament second round. That game - Khadijah Whittington had 23 points and 11 rebounds and Gillian Goring recorded 16 and 11 - sending the Pack in the Sweet 16.
Call In the Reserves
Coach Harper has mentioned numerous times that she likes to have "firepower" coming off the bench to provide points in a hurry. Juniors Tia Bell and Brittany Strachan are filling those roles with great success this season.
Tia Bell is averaging 9.4 points and 6.3 rebounds, while Strachan is contributing 7.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.
New Starting Lineup Leading the Way
Bonae Holston, Marissa Kastanek and Amber White are all new to the NC State starting lineup in 2009-10 and are three of the top-four scorers on the team. Holston made four starts last year as a freshman, but flurrished off the bench and was named ACC Sixth Player of the Year.
Kastanek is a freshman and White missed all of last season due to injury.
No Sophomore Slump Here
Second-year forward Bonae Holston leads the club in rebounding at 7.3 rebounds and is second with 11.4 points per game. She has recorded a pair of double-doubles and has two 20-point efforts this season.
Amber White Looks Fully Recovered From Injury
After missing all of last season with an achilles injury, red-shirt junior guard Amber White has started al seven games and is fifth on the team in scoring at 9.4 ppg. She opened the year with a then career-best 17 points against FIU and then wiped that number quickly away with 25 against Florida Atlantic.
Kastanek Does A Little Of Everything
Freshman Marissa Kastanek leads the team in scoring at 11.7 ppg, leads Wolfpack guards with 3.7 rebounds per game and is second on the club with 2.0 assists per game.
The Lincoln, Neb., native is the first freshman at NC State to scored in double figures in five of her first six collegiate games since Kaayla Chones scored 10 or more in her first five games of the 1999-2000 campaign.
20-point Scorers Against the Pack
NC State has allowed five players to score at least 20 points this season. That only happened twice all of the 2008-09 season against the Pack in 30 games.
Gartrell Nearing 1,000 Career Points
Senior guard Nikitta Gartrell is 149 points shy of 1,000 for her career. She would become the 26th player to join the 1,000-point club at NC State.
