Weinacker Ranked No. 56 in Preseason

RALEIGH, N.C. Senior Jay Weinacker earned his highest singles Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking at No. 56 when the ITA released its preseason rankings on January 6, 2008. Weinacker finished the 2008 spring season with an 18-8 record in singles, and after going 5-2 this past fall, he now has 90 career singles wins, five away from the program record of 95, set by former player William Noblitt. In the mid-east region, Weinacker is ranked No. 12.
Senior Christian Welte is also included in the national rankings at No. 125. In the region, he is No. 11. Welte and Weinacker are ranked in the mid-east doubles at No. 4.
The NC State men’s tennis team, who is ranked No. 49 in the preseason rankings, will open the season on Wednesday, Jan. 14 with a 5 p.m. match against UNC Wilmington.
