Cross Country Rolls at ECU Invitational

GREENVILLE, N.C. - NC State's men's and women's cross country teams easily won their respective races Saturday at the ECU Invitational.
The men's team, led by redshirt-junior John Martinez, scored its second perfect score of 15 in as many races. Counting unattached true-freshman runners Ryan Hill, Patrick Campell and Eyob Eyualem, the first eight runners to cross the finish line were from NC State. The first runner from another school did not finish the race until 1:42 after Martinez, who ran the 8k course in 24:27. Redshirt-senior Gavin Coombs was second at 24:48, followed by Hill (25:19), redshirt-freshmen Bobby Moldovan (25:36), Greg Dame (25:41) and Andy North (25:43), Campbell and Eyualem (25:58).
The women's team had several top runners either unattached or not running in this race, Recent NC State graduates Jemissa Hess (17:00) and Angelina Blackmon (17:17) finished first and second, handily outdistancing the remainder of the field. Kara McKenna, a junior running unattached for the Wolfpack, took third at 17:44. The next four runners to cross the finish line were true freshmen from NC State, one of them running unattached. Emily Pritt (18:18), Erika Alpeter (18:24, running unattached), Caroline Kirby (18:34) and Andie Cozzarelli (18:37). Lauren Bishop, another true freshman, was 11th at 19:03, and redshirt-freshman Amanda Burger was 13th at 19:17.
