CHAPEL HILL, N.C. One passed ball with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth gave No. 15 North Carolina the only run it needed to top NC State, 1-0, in the second of two games on Saturday, April 19. Mendy McKenzie (11-8) took the loss despite allowing just three hits.

Lisa Norris (16-3) got the win for UNC, giving up just one hit.

Bridget Desbois got the Pack’s lone hit, slicing a single down the first base line in the top of the third.

UNC left two stranded in the bottom of the third. Cassie Palmer hit a one-out double to center, and moved to third on a fly ball to left from Danielle Spaulding. Jennifer Jacobs then got hit by a pitch, but Norris flew out to deep right.

The Tar Heels put up one run in the bottom of the fourth, but it could’ve been much worse as UNC had the bases loaded with just one out. Emily Troup led off with a double to the left-center gap, and Anna Roberts came on to run in her place. Alyssa Francona then moved Roberts to third with a sac-bunt back to the circle, and Bree Ensminger and Brittany Robinson drew back-to-back walks to load the bases. Breanna Brown then lined out to Ashleigh Davis in left, but Roberts scored on a passed ball before Cassie Palmer flew out to right to end the frame.
