Whittington Adds Defensive Plaudits to All-ACC Nod

GREENSBORO, N.C. A day after being named first team All-ACC, Khadijah Whittington was selected to the 2008 ACC All-Defensive team on Tuesday by a vote of the 12 women's basketball head coaches within the league.
Joining Whittington on this year's defensive squad is Miami’s Maurita Reid, Georgia Tech’s Jacqua Williams, Virginia’s Monica Wright and UNC's LaToya Pringle.
The senior forward is ranked among the nation’s top five rebounders in 2007-08. She is just one of three players in ACC history to compile 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 steals and 100 blocks in a career, averaging 11.3 boards to date. Whittington also leads the league in defensive rebounds, with 226 in 29 games played this season.
She also ranks sixth in the ACC in steals (71) and blocks (45).
North Carolina’s LaToya Pringle, who was tabbed the 2008 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, joins Whittington as the only players to be named both first team All-ACC and to the All-Defensive team.
The 31st annual ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will take place at the Greensboro Coliseum, beginning on Thursday, March 6 and will conclude on Sunday, March 9 with the championship contest slated for 1 p.m. ET. The eighth-seeded Wolfpack begins its slate against No. 9 Clemson in the 3 pm game. The winner will take on top-seeded North Carolina on Friday also at 3 pm.
