No. 54 Men's Tennis Defeats No. 53 Maryland

Raleigh, N.C. - No. 54 NC State men's tennis defeated No. 53 Maryland on Saturday, March 22, 7-0, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C. The Pack won the doubles point, as well as all six singles matches to shutout the Terrapins. NC State is now 9-8 (2-2 ACC) this season.
James McGee and Christian Welte were the first duo to win, defeating David Kwon and Alex Aksanov, 8-1, at No. 2. The No. 9 doubles tandem of Nick Cavaday and Jay Weinacker secure the doubles point for the Pack with a win over Boris Fetbroyt and Amit Inbar, 8-6, at No. 1. David Chermak and Derek Stephens fell to Nickolai Nielsen and Michael Coleman, 8-6, at No. 3.
Cavaday quickly took the first singles win of the day, taking down Kwon, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 2, and Chermak followed with a win of his own over Coleman, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 6. Welte secured the win, taking down Nielsen, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 4.
Weinacker defeated Fetbroyt, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 3, and No. 70 McGee took the win over Inbar, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1. Stephens completed the sweep with the win over Aksanov in the third set, 1-6, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5.
The Pack returns to action next weekend to take on Georgia Tech on Friday, March 28, and Clemson on Sunday, March 30. Both matches will take place at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center in Raleigh, N.C., with the Pack taking on the Yellow Jackets at 2 p.m. and the Tigers at 1 p.m.
