RALEIGH, N.C. No. 24 Virginia Tech took the first game of a doubleheader, 3-0, from NC State at the Curtis & Jacqueline Dail Stadium on Friday, March 21. The loss sends the Pack to 16-14 (2-2 ACC), while the Hokies climb to 21-9 (3-1 ACC).
Angela Tincher (12-4) kept the Pack hitless for the first time in its five-year history, fanning 19 batters. Lindsay Campana (9-11) suffered the loss.
Campana retired the final 12 VT batters between the fourth through seventh innings, finishing in her usual strong fashion. In all she collected five K’s.
VT got on board quick in the top of the first, plating two runs on two hits. Charisse Mariconda scored on a Kelsey Hoffman squeeze bunt in front of the plate. Mariconda later scored on a Jessica Everhart infield single to short.
Tech added another scratch in the top of the second. Jenna Rhodes smacked a triple into the left-center gap, and Erin Ota brought her in with a double to right-center. Ota, however, was gunned down 9-4-5, trying to stretch her two-bagger into a triple.
State will stay on the field for game two of today’s doubleheader against the Hokies. The game, as well as tomorrow’s 12 p.m. affair, will be broadcast live online via ACC Select.
