Hoops For Hope ~ February 10, 2008
NC State head coach Kay Yow and the Susan G. Komen Foundation are teaming up again for the third edition of the “Hoops For Hope” game on Sunday, February 10, 2008 against Boston College. The event is a breast cancer awareness event, in addition to a fund raising opportunity for the foundation. Hoops for Hope is a basketball game centered around hope hope for early detection, hope for increased survival and hope for a cure. At halftime of last years game, NC State presented a check for $43,820 to the NC Triangle Affiliate of the Komen Foundation on behalf of Coach Yow and the women's basketball team.
NC State a Vital Part of WBCA's "Think Pink"
“Think Pink” is the WBCA’s global, unified effort to assist in raising breast cancer awareness on the court, across campuses, in communities and beyond. Of course each NC State game is played with special meaning as head coach Kay Yow has battled the disease since 1987.

Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), in partnership with The V Foundation for Cancer Research, announced the launch of the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. This is the first time in its 26-year history that the WBCA has instituted a health initiative, with the Fund serving as the newest women’s initiative launched at The V Foundation.
NC State head coach, Kay Yow, established the Fund in partnership with The V Foundation as a 501 c(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against cancer through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

4Kay Run To Take Place at 2008 Final Four
Join in the battle against breast cancer by taking part in the first 4Kay Run Presented by The Hartford. The 4Kay Run will be held on Sat. April 5 at 8 am at the St. Pete Times Forum West Plaza in honor of NC State head coach Kay Yow. Proceeds will benefit cancer research through the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. Whittington Named to Naismith Candidates List
Senior forward Khadijah Whittington is among 31 candidates vying for the 2008 Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced. Whittington leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in rebounding (11.6 rpg) and is second in scoring (17.5). In addition, she ranks third in steals (2.82), sixth in blocks (1.55) and seventh in field goal percentage (.533) within the league. The women’s list, which includes 31 candidates because of a tie, was voted on by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball journalists, coaches and administrators from around the country. The board based its criteria on player performances this season, and the list was narrowed down from the pre-season list of 50 candidates who were announced at the beginning of the season.
Elite Rebounding Company
Senior Khadijah Whittington became the 16th player in ACC history (4th at NC State) to compile 1,000 career rebounds when she hauled in an offensive rebound at the 4:47 mark of the second half against Virginia Tech (1/25). UNC's Erlana Larkins grabbed her 1,000th board the next day.
Back-to-back ACC Rebound Crowns
Khadijah Whittington is attempting to become just the second player in ACC history to lead the conference in rebounding in consecutive seasons. UNC's Tracy Reid led the league in both 1997 and 1998. Whittington paced everyone with 10.5 boards last year and is head and shoulders above the crowd this year at 11.9 caroms per game.
Shayla Fields Forever
Shayla Fields leads the ACC with 34.73 minutes per game, while Khadijah Whittington ranks third at 34.00 minutes per game. Fields' consecutive minutes streak was stopped at 245 when she was taken out at the end of the Wake Forest game on Sunday (1/27). She had not come out of the previous five ACC games and has played eight full contests this season. Whittington has gone the distance five times.
Shayla Fields Becomes Steady Second Option
Junior Shayla Fields has scored in double figures in 14 of the last 17 games and enters Thursday nights game 22nd in the ACC with 11.9 points per game.
WBCA Superlative Award Winners for 2008
The WBCA announced Coach Kay Yow was named the Division I Most Inspirational coach as part of the 2008 WBCA Superlative awards. Nominations were submitted through an online survey.
