Women's Tennis Has Success at Kitty Harrison Invite

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The NC State women's tennis team competed against Maryland in singles play and Winthrop in doubles on the first day of the Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C., on Friday, Nov. 7. Senior Neils Barringer, junior Berkeley Brock , and freshman Diana Mortlock all had success in singles play. Brock and freshman Pender Sessoms won their doubles match.
Brock defeated Michal Amir, 6-7 (3), 7-5, 1-0(4), and Barringer defeated Karin Lundmark, 7-5, 6-3. Mortlock won her singles match over Jordan Hansbrough 2-6, 6-4, 1-0(4). Sophomore Lenka Hojckova lost to Eleanor Peters, 3-6, 6-1, 1-0(8), and Sessoms lost to Lauren Wolman, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles play against Winthrop, Brock and Sessoms defeated Sara Abutovic and Paula Penera, 9-7. Hojckova and Mortlock fell to Paty Boimbra and Liza Saytsera, 8-4.
Play will continue throughout the weekend and will wrap up on Sunday, Nov. 9.
