But the Wolfpack’s Hall of Fame coach is a gracious host and has an assistant coach, Trena Trice Hill, that she rates as an 8+ on the cooking scale and a staff that is willing to lend all its culinary talents to a memorable meal.
So, for NC State’s part of the recently announced “Chow4Yow” fundraising initiative by the ACC coaches, Wolfpack women’s basketball will conduct an e-mail auction for the opportunity to have dinner with the Wolfpack coach and her staff.
The dinner will be at Yow’s home in
Each head coach in the league will auction or raffle off a personal dinner, with all proceeds going to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, which helps fund cancer research.
“This is a wonderful idea that came from the other ACC coaches,” Yow said. “When I arrived in
“They have always gone out of their way to do special things when our teams play against them, like wear pink warm-ups or uniforms or shoelaces. They have sent me cards signed by the coaching staff or their teams. It’s been above and beyond. I appreciate their support. It inspires me and motivates me and is very uplifting.”
But, Yow continues to have her competitive spirit and would like to see NC State raise the most money for this fund-raiser.
Beginning today, Nov. 3, interested fans can fill out the attached questionnaire to submit a private bid. Bidding will end at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20. The winner will be announced on Friday, Nov. 21.
The minimum opening bid is $2,000. New bids must increase previous bids by a minimum of $100. The current bid will be posted here on GoPack.com. Bidders can submit three kinds of bids: a designated amount (must exceed current posted bid), current bid, plus $100 or current bid plus a designated amount (must exceed $100).
Bids will be anonymous on-line, but bidders must fill out certain personal information when submitting a bid.
The winning bid will be a full donation to the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund and is tax deductible.
Coach Yow promises that the dinner will be memorable, even if she’s not exactly the one sweating over her own stove. Her house will be decorated for the holidays, and the evening promises to have the mood of a family get-together.
“Of all the people on my staff, hands down, the best cook is Coach Hill,” Yow said. “She will be responsible for most of the cooking. There might be another person who might help us out. If Coach [Stephanie] Glance’s mother happens to be in town, she might come over and help out and make an extra dish or two.
“We are all committed to making the best meal possible and a special evening for whoever has dinner with us.”
