No. 15 Auburn Too Much For Wolfpack Women

MIAMI (AP) -Sherell Hobbs scored 15 points, leading No. 15 Auburn past North Carolina State 66-51 on Saturday in the opening round of the FIU Thanksgiving Classic.

DeWanna Bonner added 14 for Auburn (6-0), which will play the host Golden Panthers (1-4) on Sunday. FIU beat NC State 58-42 on Friday in the other opening-round game of the three-team event.

Shayla Fields led NC State (4-3) with a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds. Brittany Strachan added 11 for the Wolfpack.

Auburn went on a 12-0 run in the first half to take a commanding 35-16 lead following a basket by Bonner and took a 39-24 lead into halftime.

NC State pulled within 50-43 in the second half, but that would be as close as the Wolfpack would get.

NC State takes on Michigan next Friday in the ACC/Big Ten ACC Challenge at 6 p.m. in Ann Arbor. The game is televised on the Big Ten Network and is available to Time Warner Cable subscribers in the Triangle.
